The biotechnology origins of GYNrepair
The CFPC® was originally developed in 2007, after 30 years of clinical research at the University Hospital of Lausanne (CHUV), which is home to one of Switzerland’s leading burn treatment centres.
CFPC® inventor Professor Lee-Ann Laurent Applegate is head of the Tissue Regeneration Centre at the University Hospital of Lausanne. With the help of her team, she developed progenitor cell technology that is used alongside skin grafts to optimise and accelerate tissue regeneration in the treatment of severe burn patients.
The CFPC®’s original purpose was to reduce scar tissue, alleviate pain, and increase skin elasticity in the treatment of burn patients whose wounds had already closed and begun to heal.
Very quickly, it was found that when delivered within a cream formulation, the CFPC® could be used beyond the treatment of burn patients for a much broader range of applications. Prof. Applegate’s colleagues in Dermatology and Gynaecology began using the cream for their various needs, and thus — GYNrepair was created!
Progenitor cells provide critical functions in maintaining skin homeostasis and repair after injury. Progenitor cells have been found to heal wounds with little inflammation, providing scar-less regeneration.
The CFPC® is made with proteins extracted from progenitor cells and prepared in the Elanix advanced skin care laboratories.
